Climbing: How to Train, Rehab & Fuel

  • The Mountain Project 507 Bond Street Bozeman, MT, 59715 United States (map)

Join Dr. Esther Smith, DPT & Rachel Nawrocki, Registered Dietitian for a comprehensive look at how our training, rehabilitation and fueling practices affect our climbing and what you can do to improve your own.

This event is FREE and open to all interested.

ABOUT THE EVENT

From Esther: “I believe that training and rehab fall on the same continuum. So depending on whether you are patterning, loading or accelerating movement, we are always interested in our body systems being optimized to have the capacity for the demand. Injuries are an opportunity to explore what the body needs in order to heal and find balance. Training is our way into our physiology – through resistance we draw the attention of the mind and the body to repair and adapt in a specific manner. No matter where one may fall on the continuum of athleticism or how much one may hurt moving, exercise should never be a grind. It becomes a journey to understand what the body needs in the various moments and chapters in one’s life, especially in the low points.”

Esther will also lead us in a Movement Exploration focused on:

  • Building healthy elbows and fingers through core tension (crawling, push ups and plank variations)

  • Shoulder stability and power (rotator cuff activation, iso pull ups, explosive pull ups)

  • Posterior chain engagement and action on the wall (iso bridge work, iso single leg squats and jumping progressions)

Rachel will be teaching about:

  • Nutrition considerations to focus on pre-, during, and post-climb
